Hydrotherapy

One of the very few Hydrotherapy pools in the area, our stunning purpose-built Hydrotherapy pool is heated to 33-34 degrees centigrade and is open 5 days a week for Aquatherapy and Exercise Classes.

Hydrotherapy benefits

hydrotherapy pool

Fontwell Physio is one of the few private practices with its own dedicated hydrotherapy pool.

Our well-established hydrotherapy pool was completed at the Fontwell Clinic in 2008. It is an additional benefit to all patients and is open Monday to Friday. We also run a range of exciting classes in the pool. Hydrotherapy is the use of water in the treatment of different conditions, including arthritis, pre and post-operations and related rheumatic complaints. Hydrotherapy involves exercises in a warm-water pool, so is different to swimming.

[Note: Please bring a towel to all sessions and classes.]

One-to-one sessions

Your physiotherapist will be with you in the water and will guide you through a rehabilitation programme designed for you to improve your mobility and/or aid your recovery following surgery or an accident.

Self-treatment sessions

This is where your physiotherapist sets up a unique exercise plan for you. These sessions are a way for you to exercise with others but to your own specific programme.

You will need a one-to-one session and assessment prior to starting hydrotherapy self-treatment sessions so that we are aware of your condition and goals. During this session, if you are medically fit, a physiotherapist or assistant with specialist training will show you how to do specific exercises. You may chose to continue with your physiotherapist or you may be able to begin self-treatment sessions once you have a programme set up for you

You do not have to be able to swim to have hydrotherapy. The water temperature in the pool is maintained between 33-34°C. The warm temperature of the water helps your muscles relax with the water supporting your weight, making it easier to exercise.

The use of exercise in the pool is a great help in easing conditions such as arthritis and back pain, for rehabilitation after operations such as hip or knee replacements and for musculoskeletal disorders generally.

If claiming through medical insurance, patients need to gain confirmation of cover.

To book a self-treatment session, please book online here.

The cost of self-treatment sessions are £15. If claiming through medical insurance, patients need to gain confirmation of cover.

Hydrotherapy aqua classes

In addition to our one-to-one and self-treatment sessions, we offer the following hydrotherapy drop-in classes, with no booking required:

Aqua aerobics

A full-blown, one-hour group exercise class that will test your fitness and endurance. Noisy, fun, exhausting but exhilarating, it's hard work but totally worth it in the end!

Aqua HIIT

High Intensity Training (HIIT) has become a popular way to burn fat and improve cardiovascular fitness. The fitness industry has seen a huge rise in demand for this type of interval training and what better place to test yourself than in the hydrotherapy pool with the resistance of the water adding to your workout.

Back class

One of our longest running and most successful classes. Designed for those who really want to target their spines and improve the strength and mobility of the surrounding muscles. The course moves from gentle stretching through to core exercises.

Gently does it

Feeling stiff? General aches and pains? Then this is the class for you. Jayne Bradley, our hydrotherapy instructor, will take you through an hour's gentle exercise, designed to get your joints and soft tissue moving comfortably, which can help improve your mobility.

Stretch and flex

A yoga-style aqua class concentrating on stretching exercises in warm water. Ideal for those who like a less intense exercise class. Very beneficial for those who feel they would like to improve their flexibility and range of motion.
